Cat city

I am in the city Kuching in Borneo. Kuching means cat in Malay and they take pride in being cat city.

Every day iv been getting up around 6:30 and jogging along the river side while the sun comes up.

During the days iv been walking to the different musumes or markets. This is the perfect city to walk around all day and get super lost then find something amazing.

This is the view from my guest house. If you see the first picture I posted of the cats, I'm staying to the left of the McD. on the third floor.
The owners of the guest house are super nice. It's a man Nah, his wife Chico and daughter sha sha live there. I have been climbing with them and a few p their friends everyday!

The view from fairy caves!

Pro climber to be!!

The bat wall has an interesting start where you have to hoist the climber up!

Route 999: super fun and juggie.

I had not climbed in a month so I was super sore after! So today I got a three hour massage for only $12!!

I plan on staying 4 more days here before heading up north. I want to climb more with my new friends!

Stay tuned for more adventures!

This shit is bananas!

I just wanted to give a shout out to the best bananas iv had in my life!

Before my travels in Asia I lived a sheltered banana life. For 21 years I thought there was one type of banana; that long yellow banana that's imported from somewhere down south.

My life changed now that iv discovered many different types of bananas. And different types are better for different things (ie how you prepare them). I will give a few examples:

In Lao I learned that the small fat-ish ones are best for fryig. While the small skinny ones are best to cut up and put in or on some something because they are so sweet. And the everyday bananas were there skinny long ones because they were not too sweet and perfect for a good snack.

In Thailand my favorite was the long ones when they turned brown. These were best brown because they became the perfect texture. At New land Farm we had the best bananas they were small and fat but unlike Lao these ones were sweet!

Although my banana experiences have been amazing the past six months, no banana can beat the bananas I consumed at Bako national park in Borneo. These were long, fat-ish and green when ready. They were the perfect combination of sweet but not overly sweet and the best texture. I would bearly bite into one and it would melt in my mouth!

Can't really tell but these bananas are hudge!!

Bananas at the market

This shit is B-A-N-A-N-A-S over here!

Backpackin beach bum in beautiful Bako, Borneo.

I stayed at Bako National Park for the past 5 nights. The park is one hour outside Kuching city by bus then a 20 min boat ride up the river. The park has amazing wildlife and great trials for hiking.

While I was there I saw three different kinds of monkey, many wild bores, two snakes, birds, bees, ants (some were hudge ants the size of my pinkie, red ones, mini fat black ones, so many differnt kinds of ants), spiders, and many other little creepy crawlers. I hiked about 5-7 hours a day!

I had planed to only spend two nights in the dorms because they were booked with a school for the following three nights. On the day I planed to leave I met a very nice man named Lao. Lao worked on the island and lived there with this wife and two year old daughter. I had dinner that night with his family. They lent me their tent for the next three nights. I was able to hike to the more remote beaches and camp over night.

I brought a bag of cooked rice and my steripen and headed into the jungle! Lao had taught me where to find mussels and crabs and how to cook them over the fire.

It was so nice to be out in nature all by myself, no cars, no people, only monkeys! Every day on his way to work Lao would stop at the beach (he traveled by boat) and check "i want to see if you alive!" He told me that I reminded him and his wife of their oldest daughter, "too crazy, always want to go everywhere and see things." She is going to university in Singapore so I didn't get to meet her.

My favorite time was waking up around 5 or 6 and going for a swim!

Home sweet home! This rain cover actually sucked! The second night of camping was horrible! There was a big rain storm. The cover worked for about 10 min then the rain started to come in!

This is the probicis monkey. He only can be found in Borneo! Out of all the monkys I encountered on the island he was the nicest!

The grey and brown monkeys were evil! They would get into my bag and come up and start screaming at me!

This was the best sunset iv ever seen.

I was very lucky to have met Lao. Him and his family made my trip to Bako very special!

I arrived to Kuching this afternoon. When I arrived to my guesthouse and opened my backpack I was discussed by the smell; days of sweaty jungle grime filled the dorm room. I am lucky that I am the only one here! And the worst part is I can't use the washer until tomorrow becuse it's currently raining and I'd need to dry the clothes outside. So I am I will be inhaling toxic jungle sweat all night long.

I am staying at a guesthouse called GoREST until July 2nd. There are many musumes and other national parks I want to check out. I also need to figure out my plan for the next couple of months!

Stay tuned for more adventures!

Borneo bound!!

I booked a flight for Borneo! Borneo is a small island of the east coast of Malaysia. On Borneo is the country Bruni, Indonesia, and Malaysia. In Malaysia on Borneo there are two states, Sarawaka and Saba. I flew into a city called Kaching in Saeawaka.

When I was on the plane everyone was talking about the rainforest world music festival. I had arrived during the festival! So I dropped my things at the closest hostel and took a bus to the frstival!

This festival was a beautiful mix of all cultures from around the world. It was an amazing experience. I heard music iv never heard and saw new instruments.

Throughout the day they had workshops. I arrived at 11am and went to four workshops! I went to an Irish clogging workshop, drums from around the world, Malay music, drum circle and  bead painting. During these workshops I was able to learn about different cultures and have fun with people from around the world.

At night starting around 7pm-12am they had concerts. The night I was there I heard 5 groups play; a Ukraine group, Malay group, German group, Italian group and Austeriallian group.

Stay tuned for more adventure!

After Jalena left I stayed in KL for five more days to decide my next move.

Stay tuned to see where I decided to go!

Livin on highland

Cameron highlands made a perfect pit stop on our way to the islands. After being in Penang we were ready for some cool, fresh air. The highlands were full of Malaysian holiday'ers because it's school break for the next two weeks.

On the second day Jagi and I decided to go for a hike. We just left our guest hosue and started walking into the jungle. On our way back we found a nice bench to take a break. We were siting on someone's front portch. An Indian Malay man came out of his house. Dass first noticed our massive misquito bites and gave us an eucalyptus spray. After a little chat he invited us to stay at his house.

At first we were a little hesatint about staying in this strangers house but he showed us that he had a little house behind his that he rented.

It was perfect for us. Dass was a wonderful host. He made us wonderful Indian dinners everynight. His daughter was around our age and worked at one of the hotels in town. Dass taught us about the history and religion in Malaysia.

We have seen some interesting animals in the highlands.

The worlds biggest butterfly at an Internet cafe:

One night Jalena was reading in bed while I was doig yoga downstairs. I came upstairs and saw a bat flying around the room. Jagi claimed she heard noises but felt safe because she was in the 'princess mosquito net'. I chased the bat out of the room.

The house was a 15 min walk into town. And sat right next to a river and a waterfall in the jungle.

The path leading away from the house.

Pictures from around the yard.

Dass had a Bear dog named Jasper.

Stay tuned for more adventure/lazy beach bums as we head to the Perhentian islands.

Crystal clear water, white sandy beach and salt water in our hair-- this is the life. Our days are busy with reading, relaxing and exploring our new home.

We spotted this lizard just next to our house. You can't really tell from the picture but it is as long as me! And it hands are as big as mine!
